How to "Work" Winter When You Have Had It

“Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.  How do you know this is the experience you need?  Because this is the experience you are having at the moment.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

Here we are in the slog of the dark days of Winter.  Even if you aren’t experiencing negative temperatures or record breaking amounts of snow, you are probably still feeling a bit sludgy.  We’ve got 24 days left until Spring and I wanted to point you in the direction of how to best take advantage of these last few weeks.

You can think of this period as runners gathering at their mark or horses gathering at the gate.  We are gestating now.  We are waiting for the starting gun.  Our job during winter is to get deep and dark.  It is the time to self examine and look at what you would like to birth into creation when the time is right.

The emotion associated with Winter is fear.

I see people having a very strong reaction to winter and I think this is because of the forced quiet/distraction free time.  We have so many ways to avoid ourselves but so many less in winter.  Our "fear" comes with actually having to look at our life with no frills and see what's going on.  When we have the bravery and strength to face what we have avoided, we can transform that fear into personal wisdom.  This fear was originally associated with winter because you never knew if you were going to make it or not.  You had a finite amount of food and clothing and never knew if it would last the whole time or if you would freeze to death or get sick and die.

Now we have performance fabrics and solid shelters.  We are not in danger during the Winter but our nervous system still echoes that sentiment.  Something is wrong that it’s this cold.  This amount of snow just isn’t right.

So how do you “work” Winter?  Transform your fears into wisdom.  That is the virtue of this stark introspective season.  Get comfortable.  Are you avoiding yourself even when you are alone?  Stay with it.  Hang tight.  The rewards are great when you follow the rhythms of nature.  Aligning your life with the seasons is where the greatest health on all levels is found.  Winter says go dark and go within.  Get to know yourself.

Identify all of your pain points.  Journal.  Cry.  Do ceremony.  Make soup.  Cuddle.  Talk to your people about what’s coming up for you.  There’s a hell of a lot more going on than just the weather.

The Spring Equinox will be the moment when all the seeds you’ve planted for your life will just break ground and see the sun for the first time.  You are headed for glory.  Enjoy this last bit of rest before it’s go time.
