This New Moon in Scorpio has got me a little rant-y today.
All this love and light isn't helping anybody if it's just a pretty band-aid for your unattended wounds. Staying positive doesn't make any sense as a strategy unless it's born out of a deep and true soak on the other side. You need to understand your dark to live in your light.
“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”
~ Carl Jung
Today's New Moon is a good day to cozy up to your shadow. What is the shadow? It's your underbelly. It's the skeletons in the closet. The trauma. The secretive behavior and secretive thoughts. It's the symphony of anxiety that plays when you sit down and decide that meditation is too hard because you can't turn off your mind. It's the fog. The shame. The guilt. The relentless phone checking. It's avoidance. It's a commitment to confusion to stay out of taking action in your life. It's the mean voice that lives in your head and tells you that you can't. The grief. The depression. It's all the tricky ways we self medicate.
Your shadow forms as a wee little being. We are so perceptive and so wise as we take shape at this age. Four or five years old is a prime time for us to be able to discern what we can do that will win love and what we do that receives punishment or abandonment.
Then we begin the process of divorcing and denying those parts of ourselves that we don’t like. We tuck our need, our rage, and our heartache deep in the recesses of our spirit. When these darker, murkier feelings get a chance to sneak out, we might have a burst of anger or sadness but not be able to connect to where it came from.
If you ignore it or pretend you don't have a shadow, it will suck the life out of you. Only by leading it out of the secret space can it be healed. This is part of the work of Real Self Love.
We all do a pretty great job of loving the parts of ourselves that we like and that are socially applauded and celebrated. The Mastery level of Self Love is when we can love ourselves into Wholeness by weaving the other bits back in.
They say the greater the light, the darker the shadow. I’ve definitely done my time in the dark and in the fetal position on the floor. It’s worth it.
The other side is so so good. It may be a hard won peace but it is real. It’s true. It’s solid. You can count on it.
Nurture your shadow. Be brave. Dig in and deep.
Something has been begging for your attention. Let it speak to you. Let it out of the cage so that you can soothe it with the sweetness it’s been denied.
New Moons happen every month and they are a chance to make a fresh start. They are a chance to declare to yourself and to the Universe that you want more. This Moon has the flavor of death and rebirth. It is a cycle of completion and new beginnings.
You can use these questions to shape your intentions for this cycle:
What do you want more than anything?
What are you willing to let go of or change to get it?
What deep need or strong emotion has gone unacknowledged for far too long?
Where are you ready to take more responsibility in your life?
Where can you take a risk?
Let go of what needs to die. Shed your skin. This will create space for new and fresh energy to arrive.
Allow yourself to be alchemized.
